The Solo Tabla program is being organized by Parampara Ek Abhivyakti in Triveni Kala Sangam, Delhi on 9th December 2018. Tabla Maestro Mehul Sharma will present his presentation.
When we had a conversation with Mehul Sharma, see how he combined youth and classical music. There was a little bit of emotion, chemistry and lots of music when Tabla Maestro Mehul Sharma got onto the stage to celebrate the power of classical music at the hall.
What classical music for him is “Khudaa Ki Den”
Reporter : Tell us a little bit about yourself sir.
– I Mehul Sharma. I am from Mathura Uttar Pradesh but my Father is a music teacher in the Delhi School, so I grew up in Delhi. Since childhood, it has been a hobby of music that has caught music. Since dad is in music, so when I was five, I have been playing the tabla.
I have initially learned classical tabla from my father Mr Rajesh Kumar Sharma and later by Mr Rohit Poddarji. At age of 18, to refines the art, I started learning tabla under the guidance of famous tabla exponent of farukhabad gharana – GURU Devashish Adhikariji. Guru Devashish Adhikariji is a living Tabla legend who gained his knowledge of pure traditional Tabla by his guru Ustad Sabir Khan.
Reporter : Mehulji like you mentioned that classical music adds to hearts but in today’s pace the younger generation has left this music a lot behind. What do you look at from this?
– It is true that classical music is going down, but the reason is also we are. Today we see that the younger generation has abandoned their tradition and has been doing Western music more. The truth is that the real classical music is becoming extinct, but for today’s generation, a new word has come into the market, which is called fusion. It combines classical music with western music and a new music is presented, and it has started appealing to the younger generation to hear classical music.
Reporter : Is not it against our tradition to break the music?
– It is also right or not. Look, the right thing is that people are not interested in classical music, now they have changed through fusion.
And the other side is wrong on the other side, is our music so much disliked that we have to get the help of western music to woo young people? But the answer can not be given more than just this.
Reporter : Thanks Mehulji for giving us time.

PRODUCER BACHHU SINGHA : ” We Got The Best Support From Every One ”
How did you get inspired to enter the film industry ?
I was knowing music director Kalyan Barhan since the past ten years. One day, I told him that I want to produce a feature film and he took me to director Netar Singh (Mintoo) who I liked instantly due to his endearing personality. He convinced me to make a musical love story. As Kalyan Bardhan is an excellent music composer, I thought of making this film which is now complete. It is titled KYUN LAGTE APNE HAI.
Will you continue making more films ?
I have come to know the film industry now very well and I am very happy that I met the right people. I will continue to make more films as I am of this knowledge that if I am within the budget and also know the business aspects, then there will be no problems at all.
How was the experience while you were shooting the film KYUN LAGTE APNE HAI ?
We took the local talents like Neeraj Rana and Nitesh from Himachal and heroine Sheetal came from Mumbai. Then we also took Mr.Himachal Harish, known as Harry who plays a major role in the film too. Vaishali, the Miss Himachal runner up was also cast in a major role. For the elderly characters, we had Amar Dogra and Ravneet Kaur, then Sunil Thakur and Survir Singh,Shadab Khan,Jyoti were also added to the cast. We had scouted the best locales for the film. I liked the Tibetian Temple location as the monastery is very huge and has a magical effect. We filmed one song inside the temple and even outside on the lead pair Neeraj Rana and Sheetal. One song which introduces heroine Sheetal in the film has been partly filmed in the sangam of the three rivers. We got tremendous local support from the MLA, the SDM and many wellknown people from Himachal. The shooting went very smooth throughout till the very last day. We have also shot the film partly in Mumbai at Madh Island and Uttan locales, a far off place from Bhayender, Thane .
Who else has contributed heavily to the film KYUN LAGTE APNE HAI ?
Our writers Vinod Mahant,Sanjay Kore, our DoP Tapas Munsi, dance master Sunil Thakur and singers Udit Narayan, Binti Sharma, Shahid Ali, Ishita Ghosh,Priyanka, lyricists Shivam,Tarun Bisht etc. all have done a brilliant job.One more music composer C.D.Thakur who has composed two songs for this film has given catchy songs for the film. On the whole, the cooperation which we got was much beyond our expectations and now only the dubbing and mixing of final sound=tracks are remaining to be done. We are planning to release this film in February 2018.
DIRECTOR NETAR SINGH (MINTOO) :
” Producer Bachhu Singh Gave Me Total freedom to Make KYUN LAGTE APNE HAI.”
Tell us about your experiences with director Sohail Khan.
I joined Sohail Khan in 1994 during the making of AUZAAR and continued to be his assistant director in the films like PYAR KIYA TOH DARNA KYA, HELLO BROTHER,MAINE DIL TUJHKO DIYA etc.I worked with himfor15 long years. He has been very cordial tome all the time. I have learnt a lot from him and I will continue to show my kindness to all just like him.
Why are so much fascinated with the Himachal region ?
I have been staying in Himachal region in the Mandi district and Tehsil Jogendra Nagar since my childhood and this place is still the best suited for making films, specially love stories.Luckily for me,I got into touch with the music composer Kalyan Bardhan who was knowing producer Bachhu Singha since the past ten years. Bachhu Singha wanted to make a film with fresh faces and I was also keen to make one in Himachal. Within ten minutes of my story narration about the film KYUN LAGTE APNE HAI, Bachhu Singha gave me the green signal to make it. I was feeling very happy about his decision and we recorded six songs for the film. Kalyan Bardhan was humming some romantic songs and he also had many singers who are excellent in their jobs. Very soon,we all left for hunting the locations which was always in my mind and we started the shooting with sixty strong unit people, mostly they all came from Mumbai. The heroes Neeraj Rana and Nitesh are from Himachal region and heroine Sheetal came from Mumbai. But Neeraj Rana and Nitesh are also staying in Mumbai nowadays and both have cooperated very well.In fact, each and everybody from the starcast till the unit hands have supported me and Bachhu Singha till the very last day of the shooting. The film is a musical love triangle. I am sure, the audiences will be loving all the lovely locales of Himachal region and after the first digital print will come out in January 2018, we will be releasing the film in February 2018. I also got the total cooperation from Producer Bachhu Singha to make this film. .
I Am Treating Film Business As Pure Business – Mahesh Sharma.
Mahesh Sharma and Vishnu Sharma, the two brothers from Kota have produced their maiden venture KEEP SAFE DISTANCE, written-directed by Raama Mehra. All the three main pillars of the film are hugely excited as their film is on the verge of completion and being readied for an early release. Ayyer Mohan of COMPLETE CINEMA spoke to all the three . Excerpts
How did you enter the film industry ?
MAHESH SHARMA::” I am in the film industry due to the inspiratiopn given to me from my younger brother Vishnu Sharma who has already seen the ins and outs of the film undustry since five years. He was shooting for a serial and on the set was Raama Mehra who was also acting in the serial. Their meeting clicked and Raama Mehra had one interesting story which Vishnu told me and we both decided to make the film KEEP SAFE DISTANCE. Actually, I am in construction business and the flow of money as easy for me to invest in a film. I am happy that the efforts of all the three of us has borne fruits and I will continue to make more films in the future too. Also, Sagar Joshi and Laxman Singh Rajput who are in my production team are working very hard and helping the film’s progress with great cooperation with all the actors, technicians, unit hands etc. who are going out of their way to make KEEP SAFE DISTANCE a very entertaining film for all ages.”
VISHNU SHARMA” Film Industry Is a Very Good Industry For Creative People”
What attracted you to the film industry ?
Vishnu Sharma:” I was inclined to the film industry from childhood. I used to watch films in cinema halls. I used to act in the school plays, then college plays and also theatre. I also acted in the RAM LEELA plays in my hometyown in Kota for several years. One day, popular actors Mukesh Khanna and Ramesh Goel had come to Kota for judging the audition test of several new actors from Kopta and I was selected. I came to Mumbai and got roles in mega serials like MAHARANA PRATAP,ASHOK SAMRAT. During one of the shooting stints, I met Raama Mehra and the rest is history.”
RAAMA MEHRA : “Film Industry Also Belongs To Single Producers like Mahesh Sharma and Vishnu Sharma”
Having served the film industry in several capacities as actor, writer, director since 28 years, it was the lucky phase of Raama Mehra which made him get the film KEEP SAFE DISTANCE which he has says is a daringly different story of a call girl, played by Sagarika who is respected as a Devi by the people. How an ACP( played by Jai Yadav) comes to her life and changes her entire life forms the crux of the story. Raama says:” I had gone to meet the heroine Sagarika and luckily I saw hero Jai Yadav sitting in the same production office where Sagarika had gone to give a look test. Even producer Mahesh Sharma was happy talking to him. I loved his nature and the way he carried himself and we signed both Sagarika and Jai Yadav on the same day. Then signing actors like Kiran Kumar,Mushtaq Khan, Adi Irani was very easy as I have worked with them as an actor in several films earlier . I also worked as assistant writer to Meeraq Mirza in 40 of his films which he had written. I made KEEP SAFE DISTANCE in just 35 shooting days in actual locales of Kota,Future Studios, Silvassa, Essel Outdoor,Khanvel Resort, Madh Island and I just have to shoot one romantic song on the lead pair Sagarika and Jai Yadav.I am also starting four more films shortly and two of them will have a bigger cast with renowned names of the film industry. Bollywood has always favoured the brave and the most creative people who are the writer and directors as they know the exact shape of the film they are making and my uncle the Late P.D. Mehra who had written several films had told me to remain active in whatever I feel good and hence I chose the acting as well as direction field which has paid me rich dividends. The corporates are definitely ruling but there are single producers like Mahesh Sharma and Vishnu Sharma who are most daring and ready to take risks and I am very much happy to make a film for these two brothers who will be making several more films in the future too.
